SOS ESCLAVES was invited to moderate a debate with high school students from the second and first classes about modern slavery.
It was to the students of AMBERIEUX EN BUGEY that I shared my experience as a lawyer on modern slavery in all its forms.
Two hundred students listened attentively to my presentation and asked their questions during the debate that followed. Several of them asked how there could still be slaves today since slavery is abolished in France. This situation was a great discovery for them and I then understood that they had stuck with the Slave Trade.
They then became aware of the existence of another form of slavery, that of Modern Slavery.
They participate in the 4th Edition of the National Competition "The Flame of Equality" which has as its theme this year "Becoming Free".
As Isabelle ALIX, their history teacher in charge of the project, indicates, "it is a question of leading a reflection and carrying out a project on the history of the slave trade and captures on the life of slaves and the struggles for the abolition , on their survival, their effects and their contemporary legacies
This is how I received a copy of a magazine published by the high school students to summarize their work for the year in which they reported the conference studded with photos.
